Matthew Amoah signs for Mersin

SuperSport.com sources confirm that Ghana striker Matthew Amoah has signed for Turkish side Mersin on a 3 year deal.

Speaking to SuperSport.com, Amoah expressed his thanks to the Eredivisie for honing him into a better player over the years.

“I’m not sure what to say exactly but I do know that I’m thankful so many good player have always made Holland a second home for me. It’s time to move on.”

Amoah, for a long time Ghana’s first choice striker, explained why he had chosen Mersin, a small Turkish club known for its passionate following.

“I’m growing now and looking for a new adventure.

Mersin have just been promoted and I’m excited to be part of this new leap.”

The former NAC Breda striker sealed his documentation with five hours to end Turkey’s transfer window on Monday night.

Mersin, which translates as Real Salt Lake, have reportedly been in negotiation with the 30-year old for a long time.

After formalities were done, the move was agreed by the Turkey Football Federation, the final ratifying body for transfers in Turkey.

Amoah will join Mersin later in the week as he sorts out final arrangements in Holland where he has spent almost eleven of the last thirteen years. Between 1998 to 2005 he was at Vitesse Arnhem before following that with a two year stint at Borussia Dortmund. He returned to the Netherlands to play for NAC Breda from 2007 till date.

The club is located in a busy port city of the same name on the Mediterranean coast of southern Turkey.
