Maxwell Konadu defends goal-shy strikers at CHAN

Local Black Stars coach Maxwell Konadu has explained why his side struggled to score goals at the 2014 African Nations Championship.

The Local Black Stars were able to score not more than one goal at the tournament in South Africa where they finished second.

Centre-back Kwabena Adusei was the team’s top scorer with two goals- all from spot kicks- due to their impotency upfront.

"The team after my trial games, I realised our strength would be the defence, so I had to build it around them and designate different roles to the strikers,” Konadu told Accra-based Power FM.

“In modern football, strikers do more than just scoring goals and that is why as a coach you have to have a look at your team to find a balance that will suit all players.”

Ghana lost 4-3 on penalties to Libya to miss out on the trophy for the second time in the tournament’s three editions.
