Nadowli, Jan 3, GNA - The Nadowli District Assembly used the Christmas festive occasion to organize a soccer competition to select players for the formation of a Second Division football club in the District.
To achieve the desired results, the Assembly supplied all the senior secondary schools in the District with footballs and would soon extend the venture to junior secondary schools before the kick off of the competition.
Wing commander (Rtd) Eric Dakurah, Nadowli District Chief Executive announced this during the annual general meeting of the Nadowli Youth and Development Association (NAYDA) at Nadowli.
He said that it was regrettable that the entire District had no single football club and thus denied the youth of making use of their pastimes. Wing Commander Dakurah said the Assembly would therefore organize a football competition as part of activities to mark this year's Independence Day in the District and urged all interested members of the Association and other youth groups to start training to gain selection into the newly to be formed club.
"We have a lot of our youth with great potentials in sporting activities, but lack of support had made them stagnant and we shall spend part of our resources to harness their potentials for the benefit of the District and the entire nation", he added.
Mr. Gaeten Kuupuolo, President of NAYDA commended th e District Assembly for the initiative and pledged the support of the Association to achieve their set objectives. He said the Association would also in stitute an annual festival aimed at bringing the people together t interact and plan and initiate development projects in the area.
