Nyantakyi to fend off challenge for CAF post

Accra, Jan. 11, GNA - President of the Ghana Football Association, (GFA) Kwesi Nyantakyi, will have to fend off challenge from three other candidates for the Zone West B Confederation of African Football (CAF) Executive Committee slot.

The GNA Sports can confirm that Nyantakyi will be up against Benin's Anjorin Moucharafou, Togolese' Tata Avlessi and Hima Souley of Niger for the slot when delegates gather for the 32nd Ordinary General Assembly next month.

The GFA President is slugging it out to succeed retiring Togolese incumbent, General Seyi Memene when delegates from 53 national associations congregate at the session slated for Khartoum, Sudan on Wednesday, February 23.

Nyantakyi will face the stiffest competition from Moucharafou who is regarded as the favourite to the throne due to his closeness and personal relationship with the CAF President, Issah Hayatou.

The Ghana FA President will be hoping to succeed where former three times African Football of the Year, Abedi Ayew Pele failed when he succumbed to West African Football Union (WAFU) President, Amos Adamu at the January 22 Congress in Tunis when the latter beat the Ghanaian by 12 votes for the same position in 2004.

Ghana qualified for the last two FIFA World Cups in Germany 2006 and South Africa 2010 under the Presidency of Nyantakyi, a member of Africa Cup of Nations Organizing Committee and Executive Member of WAFU.
