Okwawu accuse Mine Stars

THE management of Okwawu United has blamed poor officiating and intimidating acts by home fans for their loss to Mine Stars at Prestea last Sunday.

In a protest letter to the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and copied to the Referees Appointment Committee and the press, Okwawu accused officials and supporters of Mines Stars of threatening and intimidating the match officials who in turn robbed them of victory.

Accra-based Class One referee Charles Dowuona, they claim, awarded two doubtful penalty kicks in favour of the home team and also red-carded Okwawu?s goalkeeper Fatau Dauda for allegedly drawing the referee?s attention to stones being thrown onto the pitch by the home fans.

Referee Dowuona was again accused of ignoring a serious infringement on Okwawu defender, Yakubu Urmar, who allegedly sustained a deep cut on the head.

According to the protest letter, the home team prevented video coverage of the match as required by the GFA and the Professional League Board.

Okwawu, who claim that they informed the Match Commissioner, Mr Kofi Sam, of the transgressions, have asked the FA to apply the necessary sanctions as well as the prevention of the mandatory video coverage.

They have also requested that Referee Dowuona and his assistants are not appointed to handle any match involving Okwawu again.
