Okwawu suffering from striking problem

Accra, May 4, GNA - Mr Oduro Nyarko, Secretary to the management board of Okwawu United has noted that the current spate of the club's unimpressive performance is as a result of the absence of experienced and quality strikers in their set up.

He said the team has not been able to win any of the Premier league matches played so far because of their striking problems and that management was putting in strategies in an effort to rectify the situation.

Mr Nyarko said that management are into talks with some experienced players such as former Hearts of Oak player, Emmanuel Donkor and Paa Joe Kumah of relegated Accra Great Olympics as well as other experienced players to augment the attack.

He said the presence of the players would surely bring the smiles back unto the faces of their supporters since other departments of the team are strong.

"We have a solid defence and midfield but the attack is very weak and when we add a little bite to it I believe we can bounce back". Mr Nyarko told the GNA Sports.

He debunked the assertion that the poor performance of the Club is as a result of the sale of some of their key players such as Mohammed Polo, Kweku Wiafe and Osei Bonsu.

According to Mr Oduro there is no way that the Club could have stopped them from leaving since the said players were bent on leaving at all cost due to the high inducement fees offered them by the bidding clubs.

Mr Nyarko said the current crop of players would need some time to blossom as well as get used to the Nkwakaw Park.

He expressed the hope that the "Soccer Mountaineers" will bounce back to its glory very soon.

Okwawu who struggled to keep their premiership status last year, are placed at the bottom of the table with one point out of four matches played and hav so far conceded four goals and scored none. 04 May 05
