Play Soccer Gears Up For World Street Tourney

PLAY SOCCER Ghana, representative of Ghana, in the maiden Street Soccer Tourney in Germany, is putting its bits and pieces together to parade a formidable squad for the championship.

Over the weekend, the Play Soccer team, being sponsored by Newmont Ghana, a mining firm, sharpened its rough edges, at the Tema SOS Park, in a feverish mood.

The team was also sensitised on the German culture, by a volunteer, Dr. Tino Ponsold, who happens to be the director of Radiant Sun International School, Labone, in Accra.

According to Dr. Ponsold, he is delighted to have the chance to prepare Play Soccer Ghana?s youngsters to be abreast with things they would encounter, in Germany.

Dr. Ponsold told Guide Sports in an interview that, he was optimistic the Ghanaian youngsters would have a number of German vocabularies on their fingertips, during their brief stay in Germany.

He added that, innumerable volunteers would also be in Germany to help all nationals have an interesting experience in Germany, during the World Cup tourney.

The Street Soccer World Championship will take place from July 2 to 8, in Kreuzberg, Berlin, with 24 teams from social soccer projects playing for the first World Cup of the streets, in an exclusive constructed stadium for 2,200 spectators.

The competition is aimed at bolstering peace, and fighting violence, drug abuse, poverty, and AIDS, as well.
