Acting Managing Director (MD) of Accra Hearts of Oak, Vincent Sowah Odotei, has allayed fears his political ambitions will interfere with his role and commitment at the club.
According to Mr Odotei, who is also the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) parliamentary candidate for the La Dadekotopon constituency, he is comfortable combining his political duties with his role at Hearts and will continue to do so without any problem.
On Tuesday July 26, the head of finance and administration of the club, Hackman Aidoo, told Class Sports the board did not appoint Mr Odotei as substantive MD because of his political ambition.
He said: “We all know that Mr Vincent Odotei is a candidate for the NPP in the upcoming elections and for that reason, we don’t know the future. Assuming he wins, he can’t combine being a Member of Parliament and also a Managing Director of Accra Hearts of Oak. With this in mind, we have to be cautious. That is why we didn’t want to give him any appointment, which will clash with his political engagements. So, he remains as the acting MD, until the end of the season and then the club will look at the possibility of he staying or bringing someone in.”
But in a separate interview with Class Sports on Thursday July 28, Mr Odotei said: “I have been doing that for the past seven months, we are just about four months to the elections, but I have managed to juggle both roles together very well, so I will continue to do this.”
