Poly students defy blackout to celebrate Stars victory

Ho, Feb. 7, GNA - Hundreds of students of Ho Polytechnic on Wednesday night defied a blackout to celebrate the Black Stars' 4-1 convincing victory over the Super Eagles of Nigeria in their crunch match at the Brentford Stadium in London.

The students who were clad in the colours of the national flag, the Ghana @ 50 "T" shirts and other paraphernalia jubilated deep into the night.

The jubilant students who were in different "jamah" dance groups moved from hostel to hostel amidst drumming and dancing and singing of patriotic songs.

Mr Hamza Sawyer, a first year Accountancy student told the GNA Sports in an interview that they had ev ery reason to go gay and to celebrate "such a welcome victory".

He said the nation had longed for such a convincing victory for a long time and that it was good it came at the "right time" to unit e the country for its 50th independence anniversary celebrations.

"This victory is God sent to unite the country. Let us use it to kick-start the celebration of the 50th anniversary", Mr. Sawyer added. Scores of people were also found at drinking spots and on the streets of the central business area of the town in jubilation moods as they reviewed the entire duration of the match.
