Asante Kotoko and Accra Hearts of Oak on Sunday both posted slim victories in their elongated preparations towards the 2014/15 First Capital Plus Premier League
With no new date for the commencement of the season in sight as a result of a court case between King Faisal FC and the Ghana FA, the premier League clubs have been engaging in a series of warm up games to get their teams in shape.
Champions Asante Kotoko, who have the CAF Champions League to deal with early next year, advanced their preparations by beginning to engage clubs outside the country in test games to give their team some sort of exposure.
The porcupine warriors hosted Ivorian side Tanda FC at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi and only managed a 1-0 victory courtesy striker Amed Toure.
After the half hour mark, Toure received a well-placed passed from left-back Emmanuel Asante and with Tanda’s goalkeeper at his mercy, the prolific dummied past him to slot home the only goal of the game.
Tanda will be pleased with the outcome of the game as the side which placed 5th in the Ivorian league last term since the past month have been having their pre-season in Ghana and suffered heavy defeats to Hearts of Oak (3-0) and AshantiGold (4-0).
In Accra, Hearts of Oak recorded a 1-0 victory in the first of a two-legged friendly with Tarkwa-based Medeama SC at the Accra Stadium.
New signing Kwame Kizito scored in the 23rd minute to give the Phobians a first leg advantage. The reverse fixture is set for next Sunday, November 9.
