Prestea stadium under goes rehabilitation works

Prestea, (W/R), Mar. 25, GNA - The Prestea stadium which serves as the home base for Premier Club, Prestea Mine Stars is being given a face lift by the Bogoso Gold Limited (BGL) to enhance quality play at the stadium.

Mr. Henry Tandoh, Mines Superintendent of BGL who gave background of the works to the GNA Sports said that anytime it rained, the whole stadium became water-logged because it was a lowland area making play very difficult.

He said the problem was also compounded by the poor sanitation of the area as the residents discharge their household liquid waste directly unto the field.

Mr. Tandoh said as a company situated in the area it has therefore decided to assist communities in the area with their needs including the maintenance of the stadium.

He said the pitch had been raised to four feet as compared to its original state by refilling it with soil and re-grassing of the playing would soon be undertaken as well as the construction of the outer walls of the stadium.

Mr. Tandoh commended the supporters for assisting the company offering manual labour and assured them that the first phase would be completed before the commencement of the league, whilst the rest of the work would gradually be built to bring the stadium to a more appreciable standard.

Mr. Tandoh added that BGL had so far spent 300 million cedis on the pitch while the construction of the eastern wall would cost one hundred and fifty million cedis.

Meanwhile the company had completed work on the playing field for schools in the area.

He said none of the schools in the area had a playing field where they could host sporting activities hence the rehabilitation of an adjacent big park.

Mr. Tandoh added that it was an eyesore to see the children engaged in their sporting activities in the muddy places and it was because of that the company deemed it fit to re-grass the whole area to enable the children enjoy their activities in safety.
