The First Capital Plus Premier League makes a return this weekend after the week eight fixtures were put on hold last week to make way for Hearts of Oak’s Caf Confederation Cup match.
The Phobians won that match 1-0 against AS Police of Benin, and must dig deep to qualify when they travel for the return leg next week. But before that, they have another tough test domestically on Sunday.
Hearts are making a short trip to Kpando to face Heart of Lions. The former champions have had a terrible run in the league, with their recent match ending in a 2-1 home defeat at the hands of New Edubiase United. Lions have recently been recording good results against their guests, and Sunday’s match could follow the trend.
Elsewhere, Kumasi Asante Kotoko, who have parted ways with their two-time league winning coach, Mas-Ud Dramani will host WAFA at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium. The Porcupine Warriors have also had a patchy start and need the win badly against a desperate WAFA side.
Leaders, AshGold will play as guests to New Edubaise United. Edubaise are fresh from a famous win over Hearts of Oak, but the team has gone through a traumatic experience in the past few days. Their team bus was involved in an accident en route to their base last week. As a result, their Elite Cup match in mid-week was postponed. Even though most of the players have recovered from the injuries, AshGold still go into the match as favourites. Second placed, Aduana Stars take on Wa All Stars, while Bechem United have been paired with Medeama SC.
Berekum Chelsea, who seem to be surprising everyone with their good start have a date with Liberty Professionals in Dansoman.
At the Accra Sports Stadium, fans would keep their eyes on the veterans who could line-up for Great Olympics against BA United. The likes of Richard Kingston, Godwin Attram and Dan Quaye are likely to take part in Sunday’s game for the bottom placed side.
Sekondi Hasacas and Inter Allies are involved in the Saturday fixture at the Essipong Stadium.
