Accra, Oct. 5, GNA - The National Women's soccer team, the Black Queens are scheduled to travel to Germany on Monday, October 11, to face their German counterparts in a friendly match as part of the team's preparation towards the next World Cup qualifiers.

The proposed friendly match is tentatively fixed for Sunday, October 17, in Berlin, Germany.

Germany, the current world champions will use the match as part of their preparations for the next Women's World Cup in 2007.

Mr Alloysius Denkabe, Chairman of the Management Committee of the team, who disclosed this to the GNA Sports in an interview said the match is in response to a long-standing invitation received by the GFA from the German Football Federation.

He said the team has therefore decided to use the match as a preparatory ground for the Africa World Cup qualifying series, which is scheduled to kick-start in early February 2005.

According to Mr Denkabe the Committee and the GFA are still working on the arrangements for the game and that "All things being equal, we shall embark on the trip on Monday to face the Germans."

Mr Denkabe said the nearness of the qualifying series has necessitated an effective and a fast approach to the plans of the team, hence the need to embark on the trip.

He said the team would be moving into the next phase of their preparations on return from their German trip.

The Chairman said elaborate regional tours are being planned as part of arrangements to unearth talents to augment the present set up as well as ensure a smooth transformation from the old generation to the new ones.

He called on Ghanaians not to lose confidence in the team but to continue to show and lend their unflinching support to the women footballers.

It would be recalled that the Queens returned home from South Africa early this week, after placing third in the Fourth Africa Women's Championship.
