Rajevac rubbishes Appiah Nations Cup report

Ghana coach Milovan Rajevac has rubbished reports over the avialability of captain Stephen Appiah for the African Cup of Nations in January.

The Bologna midfielder suffered a hamstring injury last week and has been told to rest for three weeks to recover from the injury.

If the recovery goes according to plan, Appiah should be available two weeks before the tournament kicks off in Angola on 10 January.

But a report carried on Reuters on Tuesday said the manager Serbian has ruled out his captain from the tournament which the Serbian insists is false.

"I am in constant touch with my captain Appiah and his club doctors say he must recover in time for the Cup of Nations," Rajevac told Ghanasoccernet.

"The reporter who interviewed me misrepresented my words after I said my captain faces a race to be fit for the tournament.

"We have to wait for his recovery and report from dcotors before we can make any judgements.

"I am hoping him and other players who are injured will be fit for the African Cup of Nations.

"We need all our key players for the tournament as our goal is to win the competition."

Ghana have been placed in a tough Group B to play strong neighbours Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso and Togo.
