Former president Jerry John Rawlings has urged all to emulate ex Black Stars skipper Stephen Appiah’s exceptional humility in spite of achieving so much in football.
He described Appiah as selfless and a man of integrity and admonished him to maintain those virtue, a value he said many lack in the country.
And giving reasons for what accounted for the virture, he mentioned discipline and integrity which he said Appiah wielded in his playing days till today.
He indicated that the one of the virtues that could stand the test of time is integrity saying, “Apart from Nkrumah who blazed the trail in terms of politics, I think sports personalities have done so well done some of us.
“Not power play or money can rescue us as a country, but integrity and humility, a trait which Appiah represents will. I am highly impressed with what he and his colleagues have said.
“Maintain your discipline and humility, this is one quality which is missing in our society. I hope others will take a cue from these qualities,” he added.
Appiah indicated that “ I am here today to officially invite you and then seek your blessings for my testimonial match because I believe you are one of the fathers of the land.”
Organizers of the program Primeval Media Chief Executive Larry Opare-Otoo said “I believe if you serve this country well, this country will certainly honour you.” The match is scheduled for June 27 at the Accra Stadium and would be preceded by a fund raising dinner at the Banquet Hall of the State House on June 26.
