Referee Kokou to handle Ghana/Zambia Olympic qualifier

Accra, March 23, GNA - Referee Kokou Djaoupe of Togo, has been appointed by the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) to handle Sundays' crucial Olympic Games qualifying match between the Black Meteors of Ghana and their Zambian counterparts at the Kumasi Sports Stadium.

Referee Djaoupe would be assisted on the lines by fellow country men, Koffi Kapou and Komi Konyoh as assistant referees one and two while the fourth referee is Fagla Kokou Hougnimon also from Togo.

Bolaji Ojo-Oba from Nigeria is to be the match commissioner. All the match officials are expected to arrive in Accra on Thursday, March 25.

The Zambians had earlier protested against the appointment of the Togolese match officials arguing that the referees are likely to favour Ghana due to the geographical locations of Ghana and Togo.

FIFA is however yet to make any official pronouncement on the protest indicating that the Togolese officials are still scheduled to handle match come this Sunday.
