The Brong-Ahafo Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) has congratulated the management and playing body of Berekum Chelsea Football Club for their sterling performance at the on-going Confederation of African Football (CAF) Champions League.
Berekum Chelsea, last Sunday, were down by 0-2 in the first half, but later played their hearts out to cancel the deficit during the second half in their away match against TP Mazembe of the Democratic Republic of Congo in Lumumbashi, to end the hectic encounter in a 2-2 draw.
Chelsea had earlier beaten Zamalek Sporting Club of Egypt, five times CAF Champions League Winners 3-2 at the Accra Sports Stadium.
A congratulatory message to the team from the regional minister signed by Ms. Augusta Ofeibea Tettey, Public Relations Officer of the RCC, copied to GNA Sports in Sunyani, said the RCC's gesture was a joint decision by the Chiefs and people of the Region, the Regional Sports Authority, the Regional Football Association and the Management and Playing Body of all football Clubs in the Region.
“We are happy to note that the soccer loving people of the Region have followed with keen interest the brave exploits and impressive performance of the Club to confirm their superiority as an emerging soccer power house in Africa,” the message stated.
It assured Chelsea FC that the RCC and the other stakeholders were solidly behind the team as it continued to battle for honors on its maiden appearance in the elite CAF competition.
“Without doubt, we are of the belief that the Club would perform even better in its next match against El Ahly in Egypt next month,” it added.
The message, however, advised the Club to step up its training, remain focused and be technically disciplined, to enable it to maintain or continue to record such astonishing results in the competition as it progresses into the prize stage, saying that is the only way the Club could eventually win the continental diadem for mother Ghana.
The RCC further acknowledged the comportment, discipline and maturity displayed so far by the management and playing body of the Club, which had led it to the great feat and success in the competition.
The message also expressed the gratitude of the entire people of the Brong-Ahafo Region to the enthusiastic football fans and supporters, who had supported the Club in diverse ways and appealed to them to continue with their immense support to ensure its uninhibited and continuous stay in the competition.**
