Accra, May 15, GNA - Former Black Stars Assistant trainer, Herve Renard had sorted out contractual issues with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to enable him embark on his new role as head coach of Zambia's national team.
Renard, appointed head coach of the Chipolopolos last week, is on contract with the GFA till July 2008, and the GFA has insisted on some financial settlements before releasing him.
A GFA official was quoted as saying that the Frenchman must buy himself out of contract in order to be released.
Emmanuel Munaile, Vice-President of the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) told GNA Sports in a telephone chat on Friday that Renard has sorted out the necessary contractual agreements with his former employers.
Munaile said Renard arrived in Lusaka on Thursday to complete negotiations with a release letter signed by GFA President, Kwesi Nyantakyi.
"As far as we are concerned, Renard has completed all contractual agreements with the GFA. The letter from GFA gives him the clearance to take up his new job."
He disputed FAZ purported problems with the GFA.
The FAZ Vice-President added that Renard has agreed to a three-year deal in charge of the Chipolopolos after a meeting between both parties was concluded on Friday.
The Stares former trainer takes over from Patrick Phiri who was sacked after the Ghana 2008 African Cup of Nations. Renard's first major assignment will be in charge of the Chipolopolos against the Hawks of Togo in the opening match of the 2010 World Cup/African Cup qualifiers on May 31 at the Ohene Djan Sports Stadium.
The 40-year old was a member of the Black Stars technical team that clinched bronze at the Ghana 2008 Africa Cup of Nations.
