A resilient West Africa Football Academy side managed to squeeze a point from AshantiGold after holding the Miners to a pulsating 0-0 stalemate at the Len Clay Stadium in Obuasi in the Ghana Premier League on Saturday.
Either side created decent opportunities in the exchanges but failed to convert the chances with WAFA keeper Razak Abalora excelling in the custodian role.
Under-siege Bashir Hayford named Robert Dabuo in goal instead of Black Stars returnee Fatau Dauda whilst defender Kadri Mohammed who has earned his debut Ghana call starred in defence.
His WAFA counterpart John Killa welcomed Ghana U20 midfielder Charles Boateng back to his folds while Ghana winger Samuel Tetteh also featured.
AshantiGold's Emmanuel Osei Carlos brightened the opening minutes of the games with an eye-catching nimble-footed display, setting up Emmanuel Baffour but he darted his effort wide.
WAFA responded in equal measure. Tetteh laced Boateng with a visionary pass after outwitting the Miners defence and slicing a pass to Togolese Komla Agbenenydi. The two-goal forward hammered a powerful drive from the edge of the but missed narrowly.
Boateng picked the pocket of his AshantiGold marker and skirted inside the box but his final effort was abysmal.
Tetteh tried a pop at goal but his new international team-mate Kadri blocked his powerful drive before it could cause any grappling problems for Robert Dabuo.
Hayford's recess talks appeared to have worked as Eric Opoku and his compatriots returned to boss the midfield, outshining Caleb Amankwaa, Boateng and the rest.
In their bid to excel, they created an avalanche of scoring opportunities but Abalora was the main-man of the second-half as he produced world class stops to ensure WAFA ended the game with a point and better the Sogakope-based side's performance from last season.
For AshantiGold they remain without a win in six consecutive games and this will heap further pressure on coach Bashir Hayford who could resign.
