The SS Marseille Model Football Club based in Accra has celebrated its 10th anniversary with football matches involving the Under 12 and 20 sides and their World XI counterparts. The Under-12 side of SS Marseille beat the World XI Under-12 2-0. Both goals came in the first half and even though World XI fought tirelessly, they could not get a consolation goal as all their kicks could not reach target. Upon resumption of the second half, the efforts of SS Marseille to increase the tally could not yield any fruits as the keeper of the World XI made splendid saves. In the Under 20 encounter, Kwabena Andoh?s 14th minute shot past the goalkeeper of World XI ensured that the 10th anniversary birthday of the club was well celebrated. The match ended 1-0 in favour of SS Marseille to justify their 10 years of existence. Both teams played a well-rehearsed game right from the beginning of the match, which saw them missing chances narrowly. It was a real entertaining session and the few spectators who managed to spent part of their weekend afternoon never regretted. At the end of the matches, SS Marseille honoured some of its players who devoted their time and energy to the club in the past 10 years. They were each presented with a certificate of recognition and a table clock. Speaking during the presentation ceremony, the Manager of the club, Mr Sammy Annan, expressed his appreciation to the players who have served the club with dedication for the past 10 years. He recalled that the club has been able to produce some of Ghana?s finest players, some of whom are currently playing with top clubs abroad. He cited Derrick Boateng and Ibrahim Razak as some of the products of the club. Mr Annan said some of the stars and patrons of the club have contributed a lot to the sustenance of the club but said the club still needs a lot of support to be able to carry on its aim of moulding stars for the nation. He gave the assurance that despite the lack of resources at its disposal, the club will continue to be one of the finest breeding grounds for world class footballers.
