SWAG elections postponed

The Council of Patrons of the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG), has called for the postponement of the Association’s Elections scheduled for Saturday, April 18.

In a statement, the Council noted that in view of very serious allegations that have been brought to its notice against some of the persons seeking positions in the incoming administration, it was necessary to put the whole exercise on hold until the matter has been thoroughly investigated.

“Very serious allegations, some bordering on criminality have been made against some of the persons seeking to contest the elections; and in fairness to such persons, the Council is of the view that the elections should be put on hold and the allegations thoroughly investigated.”

The SWAG is a reputable and creditable organization that has survived the vicissitudes of the media landscape for 40 years and the Council of Patrons is perturbed to know that today the Ghana Olympics Committee and the Ministry of Youth and Sports are losing confidence in the Association due to the criminal conduct of such persons.

Against this background it is important that the upcoming elections are conducted in the most creditable manner to uphold the proud heritage that the SWAG has built over the years,” the statement said.

It warned that any attempt to go ahead with the elections can only lead to very serious credibility problems for the SWAG in future.

Meanwhile, The Council of Patrons has named a five-member Interim Committee headed by Kwabena Yeboah to steer the affairs of SWAG until further notice.Others are Rosalind Amoh, Maurice Quansah, Charles Osei Asibey and Andrew Nortey.
