Jeffrey Schlupp and his Leicester City teammates remain at the foot of the Premier League table following a 2-0 defeat against reigning champions Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.

David Silva gave the home side the lead on half-time, and while Leicester sought an equaliser manfully, they were ultimately undone by James Milner who finished from close range in the dying minutes of the match.

The Foxes may well feel aggrieved not to have taken anything from the match, particularly when Schlupp was brought down by new City recruit Wilfried Bony inside the first 45 minutes.

Despite the home side’s dominance of possession, Leicester had their chances, with Algeria’s Riyad Mahrez hitting the post before Silva ultimately opened the scoring.

Defeat means that Leicester have now gone six league games without victory, an unhappy run which is reflected in their league position. Nigel Pearson’s men sit 20th in the Premier League table, having managed only 18 points from 27 games—they remain seven points from safety and 17th-place Aston Villa.

22-year-old Schlupp has impressed in the top flight this season—his first campaign at such a rarefied level. He scored in the victory over Tottenham Hotspur, draws against Burnley and Liverpool and defeat to Queens Park Rangers, while also providing a recent assist against Villa as Leicester were eliminated from the FA Cup.

The wideman supposedly missed the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations through injury, before proceeding to play regularly in England for his club side throughout the tournament.

Next up for Schlupp, Leicester and the under-pressure Pearson is the visit of Hull City on March 14, before they head to White Hart Lane for the return against Spurs a week later.

With winnable home games against Newcaslte United, Southampton and Swansea City still to come this season, as well as a six-pointer against Burnley, the Foxes will remain confident that they can escape relegation back to the second tier.
