Accra, Oct 7,GNA - Sheila Okine, former Black Queens midfield dynamo is on the verge of landing a permanent contract with the female team of England-based Charlton Athletico.
The English club, according to information gathered by the GNA Sports, has communicated their interest in signing on the player for a permanent contract in a proposal presented to Ghatel Ladies, her local club last week.
Okine who was on holidays in the United Kingdom as a result arrived in the country on Monday to assist the club in sealing the deal.
Charlton are expected to pay the skilful midfielder 90 pounds per match, according to the content of the bid made available to GNA Sports.
The midfielder, with 27 caps and 12 goals to her credit will emerge as the first Ghanaian female player to have featured in the ladies premiership if the deal succeeds.
Okine's performance during her year-long visit to England is said to have influenced the club who are in desperate need of a combative midfielder.
The 23-year-old Okine said, "I am thrilled with the contract and the recognition. I am poised to showcase my talent and the cream of Africa soccer in my quest to impress and open the doors for other Ghanaians". She expressed her desire to play football at the highest level
"Where I will be counted among the greats and recognized as an idol". "I believe that the time has come for African female players to get the necessary exposure that will put them in equal domain as the likes of Bright Prinz, Mia Hamm and Abbey Wamback among others, she added.
