Cape Coast, Feb.4, GNA - Winneba Soccer Intellectuals continued their winning spree when they pipped Agona-Swedru Young Rangers 1-0 in the Central Region Division Two Middle League match at the Robert Mensah Sports stadium on Wednesday.
Just after referee Jeffery Amamoo signalled the two teams into action it was the Winneba boys who took command of the game and scored the match winner through their midfielder, Stephen Owusu in the 33rd minute.
On resumption of the second half, the attacking line-up of Intellectuals made up of Abeku Quansah, Owusu Afriyie, Samuel Nkum, and Godwin Adojoh continued with their onslaught by combining beautifully and forced their opponents to play in their own half for most of the time.
Realising that the going was becoming tough for them, Young Rangers resorted to robust tackling to put fear into the Winneba youthful lads most of whom were drawn from the Winneba Academy.
Referee Amamoo however failed to stamp his authority on the game and the match degenerated into rough-house tactics. The match was therefore nearly marred, when the two teams engaged in a free for all fight following a misunderstanding, thereby holding up the match for about 10 minutes, before officials of the two clubs intervened to restore order.
Meanwhile Rangers have said they are withdrawing from the league and their Secretary, Mr Stephen Agortor told the GNA Sports that it was because the referee had robbed them. 04 Feb 05
