Soldier wounds Don Bortey

Accra, April 9, GNA - Accra Hearts of Oak's Bernard Don Bortey, who featured in the Onetouch Top 4 football match against Kumasi Asante Kotoko at the El-Wak Sports Stadium on Sunday, sustained a deep gush at the back of his head when a soldier on duty was said to have used an unidentified object to hit him.

The unfortunate incident took place near the main entrance of the El-Wak stadium about forty-five minutes after the end of the match. According to an eye-witness who spoke to the GNA Sports, the whole incident started after Don Bortey had gone into an argument with a plain clothed soldier.

According to the eye-witness, the plain clothed soldier asked Bortey to move from where he was standing to enable him move his car.

The source said Bortey could not immediately move from the car's path since he was then engrossed in a conversation with some fans. The witness said angered by Bortey's reaction, the plain clothed soldier came out of his car and shoved the player from the car's path, prompting a reaction from the player resulting in the scuffle.

It said during the scuffle a uniformed soldier came to the support of his colleague and attacked Bortey with the unidentified object from the back, opening a deep gush at the back of the head of the player. The witness said upon realising the harm done, the soldier said he did not know the victim was a player.

After the incident, which brought a lot of curious supporters to the main gate, the soldiers fearing the reaction of the on lookers, decided to chase them away thus creating a near pandemonium at the gates as people run helter-skelter to avoid any nasty situation.

Don Bortey was later rushed to hospital in the car of Isaac Tetteh, popular known as TT Brothers.
