League Table
CHAMPION Club, Accra Hearts of Oak clinched an unprecedented fifth league title with a 1-1 away draw at Berekum in the Brong-Ahafo region, against Berekum Arsenal F.C.

Playing minus the deadly duo of Ishmael Addo and Emmanuel Osei Kuffuor, the phobians failed to show their championshp stuff yesterday, but their opponents could not capitalise on the situation as the two teams battled to a 1-1 draw.

Arsenals’ strong defender, Ibrahim Yahaya (41st) and Hearts’ Amankwaah Mireku (43rd) were booked by referee Wilson Sey for rough play and two minutes later Hearts found the net.

A brilliant midfield work which featured Awuley Quaye jnr in the thick of affairs saw hard running forward Emmanuel Donkor turning full circle to deliver a cracking left footer which zoomed past Isaac Zoogah in post for Arsnals.

Hearts made two changes in the 61st minute with Copson and Don Bortey coming on for a limping Charles Taylor and Kenneth Sarpong while Arsenal’s Alhassan Ahmed also came on for Kyere in the 62nd minute.

The changes benefited Arsenals as they found the equaliser in the 75th minute.

The result effectively killed off a spirited but ultimately Futile chase by second placed Kumasi Asante Kotoko who were the only real threat to Hearts’ unprecedented fifth title aspirations.

Kotoko were beaten one nil by Dawu Youngsters with the only goal of the game coming from a former kotoko player Awudu Adama. The three points will go a long way in easing the relegation woes of Dawu with only two matches left to play.

The relegation dog fight at other venues was more intense. King Faisal defeated Okwawu United 2-1 at the Kumasi Sports Stadium, Bofoakwa Tano beat Hasaacas one nil whilst Accra Great Olympics defeated Tema Ghapoha by a lone goal at the Accra sports stadium.

In matches played at the same venue on Saturday, Liberty Professionals defeated Real Tamale United RTU. Elsewhere, Goldfields lost 1-0 away at Koforidua to Suhum Maxbees. The league will be put on hold this Wednesday when the F.A cup semi-final matches are honored. .
