Stephen Appiah Tips Gyan To Be Successful Ghana Captain

Ex-Ghana captain Stephen Appiah has no doubts Asamoah Gyan will be a successful leader of the Black Stars.

Gyan was installed new Ghana captain last month following the physical frailties of John Mensah.

The 26-year-old’s first major assignment will be to lead Ghana to end a 31-year trophy drought at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations finals in South Africa.

Appiah, who skippered Ghana to qualify for their debut World Cup finals in 2006, says the Al Ain striker can rally his teammates to win laurels.

“Asamoah (Gyan) is our concert man in the camp and the way he entertains the players, I think that everybody is going to love him and I think that he will do very well,” Appiah said.

Appiah quit international football after the 2010 FIFA World Cup finals in South Africa where he played a cameo role.

The 31-year-old is on the market looking for a new club after ending a four-month loan spell at Serbian outfit FK Vojvodina in July.
