The Municipal Chief Executive for Tarkwa Gilbert Ken Asmah has appealed to residents of the area to stop playing football in their communities in order to curb the spread of COVID-19.

“Please stop playing football or soccer. And the market women too please don’t cram up in the markets. We all need to play our parts to control this virus,” he appealed on Morning Starr with Francis Abban Monday.

The appeal comes the wake of two new cases of the virus recorded at BCF mining company in Tarwka in the Western Region.

This takes the number of confirmed cases in the region to eleven.

“We got information that two more confirmed Covid-19 cases have been recorded in the Tarkwa municipality,” Empire FM’s Emmanuel Ohene Gyan reported.

According to Gyan, standard protocol requires that samples are sent to the Regional health office because it has a dedicated vehicle that takes the samples to Accra.

But in the Tarkwa case, that didn’t happen. Instead, the disease control officer at the Tarkwa municipal health directorate took samples and transported them to Accra directly.

The individual and his close relatives have been isolated at home.
