Students to watch Starlets, Ethiopia match free

Accra, Jan 21, GNA - All first and cycle students who wish to watch the final African Under 17 Championship qualifier between the Black Starlets and their Ethiopian counterparts at the Kumasi Sports Stadium on Sunday can do so free of charge.

All they need do is to go to the stadium in their school uniforms and they will be allowed in to cheer the Starlets without paying a pesewa.

Mr Joe Aggrey, acting Deputy Minister of Education and Sports who announced this in Accra on Friday said the move was to ensure that the Starlets had enough support from the stands to motivate them to win the match.

He said it was also to pay back the young fans for their sustained support for the Under 17 team and encourage them to take to sports to win laurels for the nation.

The acting deputy minister appealed to the students to comport themselves while cheering the Starlets and advised them not to abuse the opportunity.

The Black Starlets need a win, other than a 2-1 margin, to qualify for the Championship in the Gambia in May, having lost to their hosts by 1-2 in the first leg match in Addis Ababa.
