Supporters Union undertake walk

Takoradi, Dec.15 GNA - Members of the Sekondi-Takoradi branch of the Ghana National Supporters Union (GNSU) on Saturday undertook a nine-hour fitness Walk through the principal streets of Metropolis to create awareness about the upcoming Ghana 2008 African Cup of Nations tournament.

Mr Akwasi Agyenim-Boateng, National Operations Manager and Greater Accra Coordinator of the Union, who briefed the media after the Walk, said Globalcom Limited, a Nigerian Telecommunication Company, has awarded a five-year 400,000 dollars sponsorship to the Union. He said the sponsorship covers the hiring of buses to convey members of the Union to support the Black Stars in the tournament as well as the purchase of tickets members to attend matches of the tournament. Mr Agyenim-Boateng said the company would in addition buy 4,000 supporters' outfit for members of the Union. He assured the members that the outfit would be distributed after a meeting of coordinators of the Union. Mr George Kuntu Blankson, Coordinator of the Sekondi-Takoradi Branch of Union, said the members have decided to undertake the Walk to sensitise the public about the tournament because of the poor publicity to attract the people of the area to patronize the matches at the Essipong venue. 15 Dec. 07
