Swansea ‘close to completing Andre Ayew transfer’

Swansea are reportedly on the brink of completing the transfer of Andre Ayew from Marseille.

The Welsh club have beaten the likes of Liverpool and Tottenham to signing the Ghanaian winger, according to Harry Redknapp.

Rednapp’s old club Spurs were thought to be leading the race, but it appears the 25-year-old will be heading to the Liberty Stadium in the coming weeks.

Ayew is out of contract with Marseille at the end of June, and will surely be a bargain for Gary Monk’s side who finished eighth in the Premier League last season.

Variously over the past few months, as his contract situation has come to a head, Ayew has been linked with clubs in the Bundesliga, Seria A and Premier League.

Everton, Spurs, Liverpool and Newcastle have been linked persistently while Arsenal and Manchester United have been credited with a past interest.

Bayer Leverkusen and Wolfsburg were said to want to take him to the Bundesliga while AC and Inter Milan were also keeping tabs on the situation.

There had been a consensus that Roma were leading the chase for him but reports in France in April claimed Swansea had made an ambitious move with a lucrative offer of 300,000 euros a month.

That is more than £50,000 a week.

Speaking in the same month he revealed his preference for a move to the Premier League, saying: "I'm 25 now and it is a good age for me to take the next step in my career. I have offers from England, Italy and Germany but it would be unfair to say who from.

"I speak to my friends such as Morgan Amalfitano at West Ham and Joey Barton at QPR and they always talk well about the league and the atmosphere.

"I have been fortunate to experience Stamford Bridge and Old Trafford in the Champions League but I want to play at Anfield and other grounds."
