Sellas Tetteh has wielded the axe after his national U-20 stars flopped in Accra in Gambia and dropped striker Ransford Osei from the team.
Osei missed a penalty and looked off colour against the Young Scorpions and will now have to watch the return leg from the sidelines.
It will be a huge blow to the former Kessben FC player and Ghana's top scorer at the 2007 World Under-17 championships with six goals, but Tetteh insists the player is not playing regularly enough and has become 'rusty' as a result.
Osei has already scored two goals in the qualifiers but his place in the squad will now be taken by France-based striker Abeiku Quansah.
Also included in the side for the Banjul game is Free State Stars defender Jonathan Mensah but there is no place for Hearts of Oak's highly rated midfielder Kofi Aabanga despite mounting calls for his inclusion.
Tetteh was the man in charge of the U-17 side during their third place finish in South Korea two years ago but he is getting increasingly worried about the lack of progress of key members of the squad.
"It is a big issue for Ghana football because we expect the players to progress," he told KickOffGhana.com.
"We expect them to progress but they are in clubs where they are not playing so their condition and form is going down as a result."
Saddick Adams, Ransford Osei, Daniel Opare and Ishmael Yartey were all tipped for greatness after the World U-17 event, but their careers have yet to take off since reportedly signing for the likes of Real Madrid, Athletic Madrid and Benfica.
