The eagles were lucky -Chukwu

A former Super Eagles Coach, Christian Chukwu, insisted on Wednesday that Nigeria was lucky to escape with a 4-1 defeat to Ghana in their friendly game in London on Tuesday.

Speaking with our correspondent on the telephone, the coach, who was sent packing following the Eagles’ 1-1 draw with Angola in their Germany 2006 World Cup qualifier in Kano, a defeat that eventually led to Nigeria missing the competition, said the team would have suffered a heavier loss in the clash if the Ghanaians had made the most of their chances.

“Our defence was porous and the midfield was ineffective. The attack lacked bite; the selection was faulty and we were confused throughout the match,” the former Kenya’s Harambee Stars coach said.

“The good thing is that we eventually played a friendly game. I’m happy that Berti Vogts watched the match. It afforded him the opportunity to know the players and assess the team he will be handling.”

He lamented the late arrival of the team to the match venue, saying it reflected the confusion in Nigeria.
