Tigo Community Soccer sets Mampong ablaze

Set in on the home straight, the Tigo Community Soccer witnessed arguably its most frenzied episode in the history of the competition this past weekend in Mampong, Ashanti Region.

The crowd was ecstatic and the noise was deafening as they thronged the Methodist Past to cheer their teams to victory. A total of 16 teams challenged over two days under the scorching sun for the prestigious Tigo Community Soccer title. In what was a closely fought final match, Akyeremade made the best of a rare scoring opportunity against Breman to score the only goal of the final. They went on to successfully hold off countless onslaughts from Breman who had to make do with second place.

Fittingly, Charles Oppong, the sole inspirer of the Akyeremade side claimed best player honours. He received a Samsung smartphone for his exploits.

The winning team took home the trophy, gold medals, Tigo souvenirs, and a cash award of GH¢500 (Five hundred Ghana Cedis). First runners-up Breman were consoled with silver medals, Tigo souvenirs and a cash sum of GH¢300. Bosofour finished third and won for themselves Tigo souvenirs and GH¢200.

In a mass outpouring of appreciation, fans chanted out Tigo for the opportunity to celebrate football in the football-crazy community. Mampong has deep football roots which were never highlighted until Tigo Community Soccer came to town.

Tigo Community Soccer will move to Konongo, Ashanti Region this weekend.
