Waris ready for Spartak Moscow challenge

Ghana striker Abdul Majeed Waris confirmed his goal king title in Sweden as the 2012 Allsvenskan concluded on Sunday and immediately declared his readiness to continue banging in the goals at new club Spartak Moscow. In a record breaking season, Waris also became the first Ghanaian player ever to score five goals in a single top-flight game in Europe when Hacken thrashed IFK Norrköping 6-0 in May 2012.

“A fantastic Allsvenskan season for Hacken which will also be the last for Waris. In January, he joins Russian club Spartak Moscow where former Häcken player Kim Källström is. Already in the summer, many clubs were interested but we chose to say no to focus instead on the closure of the league,” said BK Häcken Sport Chief Sonny Karlsson at the height of celebrations in Gothenburg.

He added: “Despite the fact that we stopped Waris from moving in the summer and in spite of the fact that this has been in the news since last month, he has focused to deliver and work hard all the way,” Part of history is fellow Ghanaian Nasiru Mohammed who signed a permanent 4-year contract with Hacken during the course of the season and also contributed 4 goals in 11 games.

”Waris is ready for Spartak Moscow. Thanks for everything you’ve done for BKH. We will continue to follow him,” it was posted Monday on Waris’ Facebook fans’ page apparently created by Hacken fans.

The Right to Dream Academy graduate posted an emotional message on his own page: “I just want to thank God for the great season I had and for those who never stopped believing in me, hope I didn’t let u guys down. Your support for me over the years has been great, thanks again. Only God knows what the future holds.”
