Former Hearts of Oak player, Lawrence Adjah Tetteh has disclosed that some players thought Bernard Dong Bortey consulted some deity before playing games due to his impressive performances and accuracy in predicting games.
According to the 2004 CAF Confederation Cup winner, Dong Bortey would often foretell the number of goals he would score before games and it often came to pass.
Recalling some memorable moments with Dong Bortey at Hearts of Oak on GTV’s Time With The Champions, Adjah Tetteh said at some point he perceived that his teammate was into black magic, also known as juju.
“Those days we would go to Newtown for our jerseys and Dong Bortey would come to my room and he would brag about the number of goals he would score and so forth,” Adjah Tetteh said.
He added, “At times he would intentionally do a particular hairstyle so that it brings him luck or so that people talk about him.”
“I remember during one of our games, Dong Bortey wore a band on his arm and I told him, what you are doing will let people think you into ‘Black Magic.’”
Lawrence Adjah Tetteh went on to hail Dong Bortey for making the right decision by choosing Hearts of Oak over Asante Kotoko.
Don Bortey and Adjah played together during some of the most successful years of Hearts of Oak, winning domestic and continental titles in the process.
