We won’t condone mediocrity – GHALCA

The Ghana League Clubs Association, GHALCA, organisers of the annual President’s Cup has issued a stern notice to the four participating clubs on the usage of second string sides for this year’s prestigious event.

This comes after recent reports in the Nigerian media which suggest that Enugu Rangers will resort to their reserve side because of commitments to the next stage of the CAF Confederations Cup and the ongoing Nigerian Premier League where the former African champions are placed 10th.

Member of the Media Committee at GHALCA, Albert Commey Aryeetey tells Joy Sports “the President’s Cup is a very important cup in the life of every Ghanaian because the Republic Day is a very important day.

We have chosen that day to honour the sitting president and the entire citizenry. For that matter, we will not like any mediocrity. I am not sure they [Enugu Rangers] will do that by their letter and the commitment that they’ve shown.

That will not suggest they will bring a second string side because they know that it is a very important tournament to us.”

Four teams comprising two local and two foreign clubs will play in this year’s competition for the first time on July 1.
