Isaac Boakye is struggling to hold down a regular place at the Bundesliga side Wolfsburg.
The 26-year-old has managed only two appearances for the club so far this season and has failed to find the target.
Wolfsburg coach Felix Magath is not satisfied with the Ghanaian striker's output this year, prompting talk of the imminent exit of the attacker.
Boakye's agent Wolfgang Voge has confirmed that the rivals Mainz 05 are interested in signing the former Ghana striker.
But Voge admitted that Boakye has struggled this season.
"We are still in discussion concerning Isaac's stay at Wolfsburg and it is clear his performance has not been satisfactory," Voge told Ghanasoocernet.com .
"But it is not a situation of him being dropped at Wolfsburg but he wants to go to a place where he can play competitive football.
"Mainz have called Wolfsburg to express interest in Boakye and I am confident that after next week we can talk with the clubs concerned."
Boakye has been ruled out of the Ghana national team after falling out with Ghana coach Claude Le Roy.
But the striker's agent says he will win back his place in the national team if he gets regular football action.
"Boakye is interested in playing for his country but because his first-team opportunities are limited it is diffcult for him," Voge.
"I am confident that if he gets regular football action he will be back in the national team."
