The Ghana Women’s League Board (WLB) has announced April 29 as the new date for the commencement of the fifth National Women’s National League (NWL).
The feminine edition of the domestic league which is considered as a huge step towards developing the women’s game was earlier scheduled to come off on April 15.
Speaking to Starr Sports, Roselyn Amoh, the deputy chairperson for the Women’s League Board explains this became necessary as a result of the late coach Sam Arday’s final funeral rites which comes off on April 6.
“Coach Sam Arday’s funeral comes off next week and looking at the role he and other departed coaches have played in women’s football, we decided to seek approval from the GFA if we could reschedule our matches,” she mentioned.
Roselyn Amoh added: “the super Cup will come off on April 22 and the league will follow on April 29.”
Meanwhile, the Club Licensing Board has banned Police Ladies, Samaria Ladies and Ashtown Ladies from using their home venues for the fifth edition of the Women’s League. The venues have been deemed not to meet the required standards.
The 2017 NWL maintains its 16-club, two zones format.
