Ghana goalkeeping coach Nasam Yakubu claims that there are quality goalkeepers in the country’s domestic league.
Ghana coach Avram Grant has not invited any other home-based goalkeeper aside AshantiGold SC’s Fatau Dauda since taking over late last year.
This has triggered claims amongst fans that there are no quality goalkeepers in the local league.
However, Yakubu, who joined the Black Stars’ technical staff three years ago, insists there are good goalkeepers in the country.
“We have good goalkeepers in the league. Wa All Stars have two very good goalkeepers namely Richard Ofori and Baba Musah while Kotoko have Eric Ofori Antwi and Ashgold have Robert Dabuo,” Yakubu told Starr FM.
“I think we have a couple of quality goalkeepers around but the problem is that they are yet to be given the opportunity to join the national team.”
Grant declared recently that home-based players including goalkeepers who perform well in the Ghana Premier League must first prove themselves with the local Black Stars before they can earn call-ups to first team.
Ghana’s current goalkeeper Razak Brimah came under fire after the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations where the team lost the final on penalties to Cote D’Ivoire.
