Algiers, July 13, GNA - The Golden Rackets, Ghana's national tennis team put the loss of Emmanuel Mensah on the opening day behind them as they gained two straight set victories in the next two matches at the 9th All Africa Games in Algiers.
Michael Nortey started the recovery mission when he took just a little over one hour to dispatch Motang Onkabetse of Botswana 6-2, 6-0. In the first set, Nortey stretched his opponent with powerful serves and cross court shots to make Motang work over time. The drill certainly took its toll on the guy from Botswana as he easily capitulated in the second set to concede a 6-0 win to the Ghanaian.
Owusu Menford followed the footsteps of Nortey and was ruthless against his opponent, who only registered in the draws as Gina. Menford wrapped it up in one hour, twenty minutes, with a 6-2, 6-1 win to move into the next round of the competition. Tennis Association Chairman, Jeff Abeasi praised his boys for their feat, adding that he hoped they would remain focused and determined to do well in the competition. 13 July 07
