Army Officers beat Koforidua Tennis Club in friendly game

Players of Army Officers Tennis Club (AMTEC) extended their home superiority over the weekend where they whitewashed Koforidua Tennis Club 8-4 in a one day friendly Tennis competition.

The team put up one of the stellar performances in recent times by first defeating the away team 4-1 in the singles, before dismissing them with a 4-3 win in the doubles.

AMTEC Tennis Club recorded their first victory in the ladies singles as Nathalie Larlse walloped Koforidua’s Stella Panwum 7-1. Nathalie’s win for AMTEC continued as the club dominated in the Men’s Singles with Dr. Cyril Bansah defeating Kofi Asare 7-5 then Cedric Dzelu outwitting Samuel Appiah 7-4. AMTEC’s Sampson Shiabu beat Kwasi Ahiale 7-2 while Richard Kotey gave hope to the visitors as he overpowered Major Nuku 7-4.

Doubles event started with Chairman’s doubles as AMTEC’s Judge Asante paired with Mr Aryee to beat Koforidua’s George Afful/ Kwabena Sogoe 7-4.

In other doubles games: AMTEC’s pair, Nana Yaw and Regional Police Commander George Alex, relying heavily on home support, held onto their serves and broke their opponents at crucial points to beat Kwaku Agbesi and Samuel Afriyie 7-5. Samuel Shiebu and Cedric maintained the home team's fine form as they outshined Kofi Asare/Sammy Appiah 7-2. AMTEC’s Rufus/Major Eugene Mensah (Gege) also won 7-4 over George Boluvi/ kojo Asare. Captain Felix/LT. Col. Fiamavle Elikem won 7-3 over Kwasi Ahiale/ Lloyd.

Charles Addo and Kwabena Kottey however turned the tables around for the Koforidua team with a fabulous play spiced with creativity, precision and power in the game defeating Ranger and Nuku 7-2. Charles Ampadu/ Nii Quarshie also stepped onto the court blazing from angles to add another win for the visitors beating Portia / Asomaning 7-3. Nelson and Isaac had a walk over after their opponents Coach Joe/Dr. Cyril Bansah retired due to cramp; Nelson and Isaac were leading 2-1.

President of Koforidua Tennis Club Mr. George Afful described the tournament as one of the most successful tournaments the club has participated and acknowledged AMTEC for the warm reception. He assures of a return encounter.

President of Army officers Tennis Club also said that the win over Koforidua Tennis Club did not come as a surprise because his club members prepared for the tournaments very well.

Present for the tourney were the Military Academy and Training School Commander Brig. General Yakubu Sali, Greater Accra Regional Police Commander DCOP Alex George Mensah, Supervising High Court Judge in the Western Region, Edward Amoako Asante and High Court Judge Justice Anthony Oppong.
