Japan Motors Trading Company Limited (JMTC) will continue to support the development of Ghana’s tennis through the sponsorship of tournaments and programmes aimed at unearthing talents.
Mr. Nouhad Kalmoni, Managing Director of Silver Star Limited, made the pledge in an address on behalf of JMTC at last Saturday’s finals of the first-leg of the ITA West Africa Satellite tournament in Accra.
Sixteen countries’ players featured in the tournament. These included Cote d’Ivoire, Togo, Benin, Nigeria, Zimbabwe, South Africa and Ghana.
The second-leg of the satellite tournament will be played in Cotonou, Benin, this week while the masters in the series come off in Lagos, Nigeria, next week.
The Accra tournament was dominated by South Africa whose Whitehouse won the singles 6-3, 6-4 against Arnaud Segodo of Benin. W. Whitehouse later paired compatriot W.P. Meyer to win the doubles 7-5, 6-7, 6-1 against the Zimbabwe pair of G. Chidzikwe and G. Tongone.
