Commonwealth Games: Abrefa bemoans late arrival of equipment

Captain of Ghana’s Table Tennis team, Derek Abrefa has revealed that, the late arrival of equipment affected the performance of the team in the ongoing 20th Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.

Speaking to the sportscrusader.com, the equipment arrived late and they were unable to practice with them adequately before the commencement of the competition.

“Our rubbers arrived at a time, we have completed the doubles and this could be attributed to our poor performance in the events”, he added.

He added that, their rubbers and bats were not up to standards and these factors have negatively affected our performance.

“We lost to countries we could have beaten easily but due to the poor rubber we were using in playing our opponents.

“Could you believe ten players using two rubbers in. We rotate the use of rubbers after every training and match session.

“We have been in a situation where after using a rubber we hand it over to the women to use and this is not good enough,” he lamented.

He however stated, he was impressed by the performance of the team though they could not win medals.
