Accra, Aug 1, GNA - Ghana's five-member tennis contingent has arrived in Cotonuo, Benin, ahead of the International Tennis Federation's (ITF) and Confederation of Africa Tennis (CAT) Circuit 13 and Under tourney for West and Central Africa scheduled to commence on Wednesday, August 3.
The team led by coach Eric Dowuona has Kwabena Bamfo, Jathesh Bagerbaseh, Anita Cudjoe and Linda Parker representing Ghana's interest in the 18-country competition.
Ghana, the defending champions for the annual tourney, aims at exposing especially talented young players on the continent for the future.
The Ghanaians, according to information pieced together by the GNA Sports are buoyant about their chances ahead of the two-week fiesta that ends on August 14.
The team is in great shape and look poised to successfully defend their trophy and the country's pride beginning Wednesday August 3. The youngsters will pitch their strength against equally talented players from countries like the host, Benin, Cape Verde, Cote d' Ivoire, Equatorial Guinea, The Gambia, Guinea Bissau, Mali, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Burkina Faso, Central Africa Republic, Gabon, Liberia, Niger, Senegal and Togo.
The matches will be decided on the best of three sets with tie-breaks in all sets as required.
Points amassed in both singles and doubles events will be merged to determine the rankings of the players from 1-32 after the competition.
