Business mogul Daniel McCauley has made a special cash presentation to All African Games gold medalists, George Darko and Wisdom Adzrago at his East Legon residence in Accra.
The presentation ceremony was in recognition of the tennis duo brilliance in the just-ended competition-defeating DR Congo in two straight sets 6-4, 6-4 in the men’s final doubles.
The gold medalists pocketed GHC6,000 apiece, while each member of the team who made it to Brazzaville including the coach and the Secretary General received GHC2,000 each.
An excited Mc Cauley, CEO of the Mc Dan Group of Companies, said before the presentation on Saturday that “I want to congratulate the players who made it to the All Africa Games and especially those who won medals.
“What can I do for them? I asked you to come and break bread with me this morning so I say thank you. You have indeed demonstrated to Ghana and the entire continent that given the support, you will go places.
“ You came for my blessings before you left for Brazzaville and you didn’t let me down, I feel proud and elated as a contributor to the development of tennis in this great country of ours.”
He added “You also showed that whatever I am contributing to Ghana tennis, you will support to make sure that we become successful.
“It is one thing, me helping and it’s another you not pulling your weight, you indeed acted as good ambassadors. We at McDan Group will continue to support tennis in the country.”
He pointed out that the feat has encouraged him and his company to add an international bite to the annual McDan Open Tennis saying, “I did point out that the championship will go international last year. Your performance has given me the confidence that as we plan to involve other West African neighbors in our third edition, you won’t let me down.”
Ghana won two gold medals from its total haul of 19 at the All Africa Games.
