The First Annual La Constance Tennis Classic was played at the La Constance Lodge, a Luxury Executive Lodge at Akropong Akwapim. On January 11th 2003.
The tournament attracted the National Tennis Stars including the tennis sensation Salifu Mohammed who earlier in the week had won the West African under 18 singles title.
The 150 million ultra modern tennis court was constructed by the Management of La Constance not only to attract business but also to encourage tennis playing in Akwapim in particular and Ghana as whole. Commenting on the tennis in Ghana Dr. Aniapam Boafo the Proprietor of La Constance said that Tennis in Ghana had come of age and should be given every encouragement it deserves. He planned to establish both a Tennis Club at La Constance as well as a Tennis Academy to train the youth of Akwapim in Tennis to break the stranglehold that the Osu boys have on Tennis because of their proximity to the stadium tennis courts.
In his contribution, Jeff Abiesi The President of the Ghana Tennis Association commended Dr. Boafo for his contribution to Tennis promotion in Ghana and said he was impressed with the quality and ambience of the court as well as the standard of play exhibited by the Players. He hoped this becomes an Annual Affair
Supreme Court Judge Justice Akuffo graced the occasion and presented the winning price to the Under 18 Female Champion. He stressed the need for more important roles and participation for women in sports in general and also commended Dr. Boafo for his foresight.
