Monica Arko- Adjei, Eastern Regional Volleyball coach and Secretary of the Eastern Regional Volleyball Association, has called on Municipal and District Chief Executives (MDCE’s) in the region, to build volleyball courts in their districts to develop and promote the sport.

She said, volleyball was a sport loved by many and there were a lot of talents in the region, but lack of requisite infrastructure to train was a major challenge.

Ms. Arko-Adjei made the appeal in an interview with the GNA Sports said, “government is putting up sport infrastructure across the regional capitals to develop sports and urged the assemblies to take up the development of the infrastructures at their areas to support government.

She said , sports was a big avenue for job creation for the unemployed youth and called on government and other stakeholders to attach much attention to that sector.

She said, the Eastern Region over the years, had produced some fantastic volleyball players at both the male and female divisions, who later became members of the national teams.

Ms. Arko-Adjei indicated that currently, there are 20 male and five female volleyball clubs across the length and breadth of the region, with fantastic players but don’t have facilities to train with.

Ms Arko-Adjei called on investors and celebrities in the country to adopt some of the lesser known sports to help upgrade them.

The Eastern Regional Volleyball Association has not been able to organise a league for the past two years due to lack of sponsorship.

The league in its first year brought about clubs across the region and helped to uncover and nurture some young talents .
