All is set for the Southern Sector Volleyball Championship to be staged at the Jackson Park in Koforidua this weekend.
The three-day championship will be held under the auspices of the Ghana Volleyball Association (GVA) in collaboration with the Eastern Regional Volleyball Association.
Speaking in an interview with The Finder, President of GVA, Mr Paul Atchoe, said the competition will be held between the five regions under the southern sector; namely, Greater Accra, Western, Central, Volta and host region Eastern.
He added that the championship is aimed at identifying new players for the various national teams through the assistance of the national technical team.
Mr Atchoe explained that the GVA chose the Jackson Park over the Cape Coast Stadium because they want to develop the game in the Eastern Region, as well as encourage the regional body to do more in the promotion of the game.
He said the championship will also attract clubs, including the Army, Navy, Police and Immigration Service.
He noted that a similar competition will be held later for the northern sector, after which a national championship will be held for both sectors later in the year.
