UNOCI Ghanbatt 13 Lift’s International Day Of Peace Voleyball Trophy

The 13th Battalion serving with the United Nations Missions in Cote d’Ivoire (UNOCI), has lifted the trophy for a volleyball competition to mark the International Day of Peace 2010, at Bondoukou. The volleyball completion was between the Forces for Defence and Security (FDS), Association of Sports of the Local Senior Secondary School (ASLMD) who represented the youth of Bondoukou.

The Ghanbatt team put up a splendid performance to beat FDS two straight sets in their first game and in the final game, repeated the same dose by beating ASLMD who had also earlier on defeated FDS 2-1 to reach the finals.

Perhaps what was more significant and to the surprise and admiration of all present and in years to come will always be remembered, was when the Commanding Officer Ghanbatt and his troops decided to hand over the trophy to ASLMD, the first runner-up team who represented the youth of the community.

The Commanding Officer of Ghanbatt 13, Lt Col A Alobawone in handing over the trophy to the first runner-up team, said this was a sign that Ghanbatt and for that matter UNOCI was ready to partner the youth and the community as a whole in the quest for peace especially ahead of the 31 October polls. Present, to grace the competition, was the Representative of the (Prefect) Regional Minister of the Zanzan Region and the Mayor of Bondoukou where Ghanbatt is located.
